Cooling Off

August 2016


Wow. Where has the summer gone?
The warm days of July and August are heating up my body. So, I am sharing cooling off techniques with you.

  1. In addition to using my air conditioning, fans and gentle cross breezes, I also eat more cooling foods. That is correct, foods such as asparagus, avocado, broccoli, cherries, cilantro, coconut and coconut water, cucumbers, grapes, green beans, green leafy vegetables, mangos, mint, watermelon and zucchini cool the body down. Eating them slightly warm or at room temperatures aids in digestions.
  2. Apply a cool/cold compress to your neck and other pulse points.
  3. Wear cotton because it is breathable and thus cooling.
  4. Visualize/imagine you are swimming or sitting in cool water.
  5. Drink water …sip small amounts throughout the day.
  6. Eat smaller more frequent meals.
  7. Reduce alcohol and sugar because they dehydrate your body.
  8. Take breaks to sit in the shade.

Cold Shrimp Salad
1cup of cooked devained shrimp
1 cup of cooked onions
1 cup of chopped cucumbers
1/4 cup of fresh parsley or mint
1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger
2 teaspoons of olive oil
pinch of sea salt
Put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well and chill.
