September Harvest

September 2016

 

I enjoy cool September mornings because they remind me slow down and enjoy the harvest of the season. One of my favorite ways to do this is by taking my Saturday morning joy break at the farmer’s market. My senses come alive as I walk around and smell and see my many options. My creativity is activated as I speak to the farmers and other shoppers while I select my bounty. When I get home I store my finds and determine what food masterpieces I will customize. I tap into my intuition to determine what recipes I will put together. I use the fruits and vegetables to paint on pots and pans canvases. I consider this play as I create in the kitchen. Did you know that play is good for reducing stress? What do you do to reduce your stress?

 

Another way I have been enjoying savoring the tastes of the seasons with my new kitchen gadget. Thank you cousin Carol for telling me about your discovery. The Instant Pot pressure cooker saves times and enhances the flavor of the foods. I am enjoying learning how to cook in my Instant Pot pressure cooker. Sweet Potatoes cook in 15 minutes while pork tenderloin in 10 minutes on the meat setting. My first yogurt attempt turned out to be more like kefir. I did not stress about it not coming out prefect because it makes wonderful shakes. Next time I will cook it longer.

 

In addition to foods my September harvest also includes being a contributing author in The Light Within: A Collection of Peace and Prose and becoming a certified Chakradance facilitator.

RECIPE:

bok-choy

Bok Choy and Peaches
3 cups of washed and chopped Bok choy
1 cup of diced peaches
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ginger
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Mix all the ingredients to and eat. Another option is to sauté ingredients over medium heat for 5 or 10 minutes until the desired textured is achieved.

 

Blueberry-Shake

Thick Blueberry Shake/Pudding
2 ounces of water
6 ounces of plain kefir
3/4 cup of frozen blueberries
pinch of sea salt
¼ teaspoon of favorite seasoning such as ginger or cinnamon
Put all the ingredients into a blender and puree. Enjoy.
